UB40 Los Angeles Concert reviews
Long time fan of 30 years
I am originally from Birmingham, UB40's home town and have followed them for 30yrs. I have seen them live several times in the UK and here in the US. I was curious to see how Duncan would sound with the band as lead vocals. He did a great job, the whole band sounded amazing. I loved the set list (gotta do 'Dream a lie" next time...) some oldies, popular and new stuff in a nice mix. These guys have a good stage presence, are interactive with the audience and look like they are still having a good time...will go again and again whenever they come around....hopefully it wont be too long. Met the guys after the show, lovely chatting with them, what nice Birmingham lads...made me miss home........Must go see, you will dance, dance, dance and have a blast.
The Old UB40
We flew to St Pete for this concert not realizing that the group had split and that the old and new groups were both touring. Fortunately this concert was the old group. The venue was a very nice theater so it was a little odd for this type of music, but the crowd got into it and it was a big dance party. The warm-up band, Radio Riddle, had everyone on their feet with their "Purple Rain" tribute. Ali Campbell has a very distinctive voice and Astro's rapping was phenomenal. The band played a lot of their hits and the backup band was great. Overall it was worth the trip to hear and see this talented bunch.
Good concert, very good venue
Disclaimer: I'm only a moderate fan of both bands, and a bigger fan of English Beat than UB40. But I enjoyed the entire concert. Performances were both very good, upbeat, and fun. I liked the songs I knew AND the ones I didn't know. The crowd was lively but not obnoxious. (Maybe because it was a ganja-oriented event, with fewer obnoxious drunks?) "A good time was had by all!" UB40 played 3 songs as encores.
Pacific Amphitheatre is one of my favorite venues in SoCal. It's small enough so that almost every seat is good. We parked a LONG way away on the far side of CCC, for free, farthest I've ever parked for an OC Fair event. Several Pokestops along the walk through the campus though, so that was ok. Haha.
